Publications Databases
Arctic
Health Publications Database
Contains bibliographic information, abstracts,
and links to full-text journal articles, reports, newspapers / newsletters,
conference proceedings, gray literature, and other documents as well
as non-print materials. There are currently over 101,950 records.
ArcticNet Publications Database
The database includes publications from ArcticNet and from its two predecessor research projects, the Canadian Arctic Shelf Exchange Study (CASES) and the International North Water Polynya Study (NOW). The database provides complete coverage of the more than 1000 refereed publications that have so far been produced by the three research projects, and partial coverage of non-refereed publications (currently about 750).
Arctic Science and Technology Information System (ASTIS)
The ASTIS database contains records describing publications and research projects about northern Canada. ASTIS, a project of the Arctic Institute of North America at the University of Calgary, also maintains subset databases about specific regions, subjects and projects.
Circumpolar
Health Bibliographic Database (CHBD)
A project of the Canadian Institutes of Health
Research (CIHR) Team in Circumpolar Chronic Disease Prevention. The database contains
more than 6,100 records about all aspects of human health in the circumpolar
region. All types of publications, both peer-reviewed and gray literature,
are included. CHBD was created from records in the Arctic Institute of
North America's ASTIS database, which covers primarily northern Canada.
Electronic Memory of the Arctic
A Russian project, the Electronic Memory Project is intended to be a combination electronic library, electronic archive and electronic museum providing access to the history of the Arctic and its present circumstances. The project is still in development but currently includes a multi-media library. The site and its contents are primarily in Russian.
International Polar Year Publications Database
The International Polar Year Publications Database (IPYPD) attempts to identify and describe all publications that result from, or that are about, the International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2008 and the three previous IPYs. As of May 2011, this database contains 4,839 records.
Inuvialuit
Settlement Region Database
Contains descriptions of 11,000 publications
and research projects about the Inuvialuit Settlement Region in Canada's
Northwest Territories and Yukon.
Métis Centre's Literature Database
The Métis Centre is part of the National Aboriginal Health Organization. The Centre's literature database is searchable by keyword, research topic, Métis relevance, sex, and reference type.
Naasautit: Inuit Health Statistics
Launched in 2011, Naasautit: Inuit Health Statistics organizes Inuit-specific statistics and presents these in ways that are easy to understand and use.
Native Health Database, University of New Mexico
Contains bibliographic information and abstracts of health-related articles, reports, surveys, and other resource documents pertaining to the health and health care of American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Canadian First Nations.
Nunavik Bibliography
Cooperative long-term project to build a comprehensive bibliographic database about northern Quebec. Joint project of Makivik Corporation, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, the Canadian Circumpolar Institute, the Arctic Institute of North America, and the Centre d'études nordiques. There are currently 6700 records in the database.
Outreach Connections: Native Health Information Wiki
Collaborative space for those who work with healthcare providers serving Native peoples (American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians) and those who work with Native health information consumers. Goals are (1) to improve health information access for Native peoples, (2) to exchange health information and training experiences, and (3) to complement sites already focused on health information for Native peoples.
PolarInfo
Multidisciplinary collection of references
to northern and Native subjects that has been produced at the University
of Alberta since January 1996. All subjects are covered, including
health, education, law, business, political science, geology, cold regions
engineering, vegetation, and wildlife. Indexed materials include articles
from journals, northern newspapers, Native newspapers, newsletters,
selected conference proceedings, selected annual and government reports,
and other gray literature.

The Gwich'in and Their Traditional Foods
In the northern Northwest Territories of Canada within the Gwich'in Nation is the community of Tetlit Zheh. In this rural Arctic setting, the Gwich'in Traditional Food Project has actively promoted local wildlife foods and healthy market foods in many community programs for their cultural and health benefits.
The Inuit and Their Indigenous Foods
On Baffin Island, within the Nunavut Territory, the rural community of Pangnirtung uses traditional knowledge and country food to address emerging health patterns resulting from transition in nutrition and all facets of life.
